Urgent Information Regarding Flooding of the Rio Grande
July 6, 2010
The U.S. Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo has received word of imminent flooding threats of the Rio Grande river and several of its tributaries south to south east of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico and Del Rio, Texas. We understand that the local government of Piedras Negras is currently evacuating several locations in the city near the river and that many local roads and highways are closed throughout northern Coahuila State due to flooding. American Citizens in the area are advised to take extra precautions when traversing these areas, and if possible communicate with local officials regarding local road closures.
For the latest security information, U.S. citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada, or, for callers from Mexico, a regular toll line at 001-202-501-4444.
