Obtaining Legal Documents

Obtaining Copies of Mexican Civil Documents: In Mexico, many official documents are issued and maintained locally. Documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates can be obtained from the local civil registry (Registro Civil).

A family member or local attorney may also be able to assist you.

Information regarding authentication or legalization of documents, including how to obtain an apostille, should be reviewed if the Mexican document is for use in the U.S. Both the U.S. and Mexico are party to the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.
