Disposition of Remains
The following general information is provided to assist families in their initial decisions. Indicated costs are estimates, based on deaths with no unusual circumstances.
A. Maximum Period Before Interment.
(1) No fixed period if body is embalmed.
(2) Within 24 hours after death, if body is not embalmed.
B. Embalming
Nuevo Laredo has eight funeral homes. All have embalming facilities. Embalming, when required, must be done within 24 hours after death.
C. Cremation
Local laws permit cremation; there are two cremation facilities in Nuevo Laredo. (Capillas Vazquez and Funerales la Paz).
D. Caskets and Containers
Caskets and containers are available locally. To transport remains by casket or container from Nuevo Laredo to Laredo, Texas, an ambulance or hearse is utilized.
E. Exportation of Remains
The local funeral home must obtain the following documents in order to
export a body: One copy each of the death certificate, health permit, embalming permit, and export permit from the State Government.
F. Costs:
All peso costs have been converted from pesos to U.S. dollars (USD) at the rate of approx. $11.5 Mexican pesos to $1.00USD.
(The exchange rate will be the prevailing rate at the time the expense is encurred.)

(3) Preparation for shipment. To obtain the required documents, the average cost is: $100.00 USD
