VOTE in US Elections

Letter from Ambassador Garza

September 8, 2004

Dear Fellow Americans,

The right to vote, a basic guarantee of our constitution, is central to our identities as Americans. It is a gift that ensures our liberty and makes us enviable to our neighbors. And Election Day is one of the great days when we all come together as a single community to choose who we have decided should lead us.

As expatriates living outside of the United States, the chance to vote is another way we reaffirm who we are as Americans. Our system allows us to have a voice even from a great distance over national borders. What a great opportunity to play a part in all that’s happening back home.

We are now nearing the final months of the 2004 Election campaigns and it’s time again to think about voting. I urge each and every American living in Mexico to register to vote in their home state, request an absentee ballot, and vote on November 2.

Attached, please find information on how to register in your home state and obtain an absentee ballot. I have also included the U.S. Government website that contains additional voting information.

If you have any questions, officials in the Consular Sections of the Embassy in Mexico City, or of the Consulate or Consular Agency serving your area in Mexico, will be more than happy to help you with registration and voting this year.

Sincerely,

Antonio O. Garza, Jr.
U.S. Ambassador to Mexico
